Dentures and Partial Dentures

Dentures

Conventional dentures help to restore your missing teeth and gums when all of your teeth have been lost. When dentures are constructed well, they  harmoniously restore a natural appearance to your smile. You may have dentures that are severely worn and need replacement or just need an upgrade or a spare set of dentures.

Dentures are available in many different types, including full, partial, and implant-supported varieties. They can improve the aesthetics and functionality of an individual who is missing teeth—particularly when the dentures are manufactured to a high standard of workmanship and fitted correctly in the mouth. However, wearing dentures typically requires an adjustment period, and some find them uncomfortable in certain situations.

Partial Dentures

Removable partial dentures may be constructed to restore missing teeth and are fabricated around your existing dentition, relying on your teeth for support and retention. Metal-framed partial dentures use small clasps fitted around your teeth to achieve this, and these will be visible when you smile. Metal-framed partial dentures tend to have a more retentive, comfortable fit than plastic partial dentures. Removable partial dentures have the advantage that they do not require surgical procedures, such as implant placement and grafting procedures with their long healing times. However, retention, function and aesthetics are often inferior to the alternative of implant crowns. Sometimes there are issues with wearing partial dentures due to perceptions of bulk in the mouth and instability of the dentures leading to movement during function. Some patients may become intolerant to wearing partial dentures. Generally, metal-framed partial dentures are better tolerated than plastic partial dentures.
